anthropologist of art

Born in New York and currently based between London and Lisbon, I am an artist, researcher, curator and writer of Chinese and Taiwanese descent. My practice explores the deep space of sound as a pathway for connection, individually and with others. My practice also serves to support other artists and creatives: advising and guiding practicing artists, artists’ estates and various organisations strategically, with a holistic and integrative approach in my work. I am an avid practitioner of Bhakti and Nada yoga, completing my 300hr Jivamukti teacher training in India in 2023.

My research approach is rooted in forms of inquiry: anthropological methods of ‘field work’ research, participant-observation, interviews, ‘deep hanging out’ (as James Clifford called it), striving to encounter others with empathy and care. I seek to be ‘undisciplined’ in my artistic pursuits, projects and sources, yet explore, study and synthesise with rigour and discipline.

I advocate for investigative practices, a visioning and implementation of ethical paradigms that disrupt existing systems and power structures that no longer serve. My knowledge base emerges from over a decade of working in the arts, both commercial and institutional sectors, a diasporic lived experience, and an ardent curiosity for the mysteries and synchronicities of this world and all the others. Please be in touch if my practice resonates with you and if you would like to explore working together. BC
